PROTOTYPING

"Skullcandy" headphone collapsable POP up store display

In this project I chose a product- the Skullcandy Uproar Wireless headphones, and dissected the themes, elements, and objectives of the company as well as the product itself. In doing this, I gained a better understanding of their design, their target demographic, and the way they would like to be perceived by consumers.

I then created a display from materials similar to what could be  used in mass production, if the pop-up display were to be in stores. The display is completely collapsible and allows for easy assembly.

Coffee Maker

In this project my intention was to create a coffee maker prototype that was realistic and beautiful. Designing it, I took into account the symmetry of shapes, the posture of the product, my target customer, all communicated through the design language. I was required to use 4 different raw materials and manipulate them to create the prototype from scratch. I was able to get first-hand experience in practicing different prototyping processes, such as 3D printing- Laser cutting, foam modeling, automotive paint and priming, graphic design, adhesives, and metal shaping- combining them all together into one assembly.

The finished product was intended to communicate sensual attractiveness with a subtle aggressiveness of the shape and angles as well as the color. It is meant as a high class product. I was painted in a cherry red automotive paint after 4 layers of air-gun primer, finished with glossy overcoat. The metal was carved from a steel bar, the touch screen was graphic designed on illustrator then laser cut acrylic was placed on top. The entire body is made from 30lb modeling foam, hand carved.

Children's DJ Controller

This project takes existing components from a product and reverse engineers certain aspects to repurpose them into a new, working product. In this project, I created a Children's DJ Controller using existing components: rotary motor and body shape of a pottery wheel toy and inner electronics of a dissected portable speaker.

The rest of the prototype is created from scratch materials- practicing skills such as vacuum forming, automotive paint and priming, laser cutting, 3d printing, electronics and soldering, gear mechanics, sound mechanics and more . On top of creating the physical model, I also wrote and illustrated a 30 page process book on manufacturing, materials, and production of this potential product. I also CAD modeled, and Key Shot/ Photoshop Rendered the product.

This prototype is intended as a toy DJ Controller for ages 5-10. It Includes a spinning mechanism to mimic turntables (activated by a switch), and a working 3.5mm aux cord jack speaker system (chargeable).

An In-Depth Research Process Book created on In-Design. The assignment required me to select a product, reverse engineer it, dissect it, and recreate it on Solid Works. I then had to research the production chain and manufacturing processes, tracing back the history of the product and where every part came from.
